Counselor FAQs

Is there a fee to apply to National Louis University?

No fee is required to apply to NLU.

Do students need to send a school report for admission to National Louis University?

No.  A school report is not required by NLU for admission. However, in order to be admitted, an official transcript with the student’s graduation date is required from the student’s high school or any other instution where the student may have earned credits.

When would a letter of recommendation be appropriate for a student applying to National Louis University?

When a student has a GPA below 2.0, a letter of recommendation is required in order to be considered for admission.

For the NLU nursing program, a GPA of at least 2.5 is expected. With a GPA between 2.0-2.5, a letter of recommendation is necesaary for consideration. Students with a GPA below 2.0 will not be considered for the NLU nursing program.

How am I able to check on the admission status of a student applying to National Louis University?

Counselors may understand a candidate’s status by contacting their NLU Freshman Enrollment Specialist directly.

What are the ways a transcript may be provided to National Louis University?

NLU acccepts official transcripts from Common App, Parchment or in a sealed envelope sent via USPS to National Louis University Admissions, 1000 Capitol Drive, Wheeling, IL  60090

Is a student’s GED accepted as proof of high school graduation?

Yes. An official copy of GED completion from the state where the GED was earned is required.  Students should check with the department of education in the applicable state for providing proof of a GED to NLU.

Are test scores considered for admission by National Louis University?

NLU does not use test scores in the admission process for candidates.

Does National Louis University offer early admissions?

NLU uses a rolling admission process.  Students may apply early by submitting a copy of their transcripts  and, if NLU entrance requirements are met, they will receive a letter from National Louis University confirming conditional acceptance.  Formal acceptance will occur upon receipt of the the student’s final high school transcript.

Does National Louis University accept AP and IB credit?

Yes.  Students should contact these organizations to request that official scores be sent to NLU.  When requesting AP or IB scores, students should use the NLU school code: 001773.
